Alarm System

2001 F150 4x4 Lariet Supercrew 5.4L

I want to install an alarm system with remote start, paging and
shock, and door sensors and remote lock and uplock.
I keep reading something about a bypass module because of the
existing anti-thief system installed as factory

What do I need to know about this, is there something I need to
be sure the new alarm has in the kit.
Thanks

Bypass the PATs system

What you are referring to is bypassing the Ford PATs system.
The system will only allow starting if the system "recognizes" a properly coded key in the ignition. Even if an uncoded key turns the ignition.

I believe.
The "module" you refer to tricks the system into thinking the correct coded key is in the ignition to allow remote starting. It installs on the steering column near the key tumbler. I am not sure how it may "disable" itself so that someone else cannot just turn the key and start the truck because it thinks the correct coded key is installed.

I am sure that there are some around here that KNOW.

Yes...it is a bypass module. Usually buried deep under the dash on install. Inside of it you place a transponder key...( so either have another one made or use your second key if you have one. This allows the remote start to work....without no worky. Only use the remotes for the new alarm system once set up....Even on some systems you can't lock the doors using the inside lock button, and then unlock them remotely...the factory alarm will sound. Same problem vice-versa. I have a remote start and never use those FOBS except to remote start it. I always just use the factory ones for lock and unlock. You just can't mix systems with remotes from each or stuff gets screwed up.....good luck!

....I'll second what the others have said. I was also in the market for an alarm a few years back. I ended up with a Code CA6551 with a TBK transponder bypass kit.....basically like mentioned, I had another key made and I chopped the actually key part off and just put the key head in the little black box, which has a sensor ring around it that goes around your ignition switch......Like with any alarm system, it all depends on how good of an install you do. I took my time and soldered and used heatshrink on everything....I also have the remote start which I thought I would never use! Let me know if I can help you!

im looking at doin a remote start kit as well in my 01 SCrew and am unsure if i need another kit for this or does any kit work for these trucks. Also im searching now but if anyone has a link to a install with wires to connect into would be great. If i have read correctly then all the wires i need to tap into for door locks, windows, and remote start should be under the steering console? Thank for the help.

The kit normally will tell you how to get online with a link for your specific vehicle. That will show you where to bump in. You may also need to run a wire to an injector but that may have changed and uses a tach bump instead. If you need something for the PATS it should tell you what you may need to buy. There are places that do these everyday and the rates can be very low. I do all my own repairs but had a place put one in my wife's car for about $280.00..IIRC. Laying under that dash and trying to see is a hassle for an old guy like me.
