1999 F150 5.4 Cold starting problems

Help,

I have a 1999 ford 150 V8 Triton Auto 4X4 approx 155K miles that does not want to start in the cold Starts like a charm when the temp is about 32 but get below that and it doesnt want to fire. New battery, pure synthetic oil (just changed) Cranks but pretends like it is not getting fuel. I have to keep my foot on the gas (which shouldnt have to do) to keep her running.

I am thinking fuel pump?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you can keep it running with a little pedal and it runs OK, I would suspect the IAC. My 98 use to act up as soon as it got cold....would not idle and only start if I held the pedal down a snitch. Once it warmed up it was fine.It is easy to take off and clean, but usually replacement is the only permanent solution. It's located on the throttle body.

That you I was researching the IAC also, Its just weird that it starts when its warm but the minute it gets below 30 degree's she's oh no....your going have to put your foot in to it and keep me running. Did your's smell of fuel after you did get her running after having to old down the pedal?

It would smell pig rich when it happened because of the roughness in how it ran with the IAC not getting it enough idle air. Have you ever cleaned the butterfly area in the throttle body? I'll bet it is a gunky mess if you take off the ductwork and look. Also a good idea to spray off the MAF. They make a 2 pack of spray cleaner specific for both those areas. I assume the air cleaner is clean? Anything marginal is elevated by the cold.....usually not in a good way.

Yup, new air filter with last oil change, I appreciate your input, going to share all this with me mechanic (son). As far as I know the butterfly area in the throttle body as not been cleaned.
