First motor, 460. Help?

I just picked up a 1978 Ford 460 out of a truck. This will be my first engine build and I want something somewhat powerful. What steps should I take? What parts should I look into? Websites or brands that are better to order off of than others? Any and All advice will be appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to FTE. I hate to send you over, but this is all 460 all the time and they start at "somewhat" and go up from there for the most part. Most 460 talk here is MPG, rebuilds, troubleshooting etc.

460 Horsepower Chart (revised 1/24/09) - 460 Ford Forum

Take the suggestions with a "ymmv" warning, and look around for other info. Good luck with it.

Hey jake conover. Have you gotten any more input on your engine build? Im in no way an expert but I have been tinkering with my 460's for years so I might be able to throw you a bone. You are welcome to PM me also.
