2002 3.0 belt tensioner

I have been trying to fight a noisy belt on my 02. I replaced the belt, idler pulley, and tensioner pulley this week. Then I even went and replaced the tensioner. I noticed when I replaced just the tensioner pulley, and also after I replaced the tensioner, the belt seems to be riding close to the edge of the tensioner pulley as you can see here. All the pulleys matched up and fit together well, I just want to make sure this is going to be okay.

Are you talking about the pulley in the center of the picture, if so it looks like the Idler pulley, as its the walless pulley, that the smooth/back side of the belt runs on, so its not so criticle that the belt be perfectly centered to run on it, as it is a walled pulley. You can check the walled pulley's alignment with a straight edge, to make sure they're all in a straight line, so the belt isn't running in a bind. There shouldn't be any wobble in any pulley bearing. All pulleys should be dry, No contaminants like coolant, power steering, tranny, or motor oil on them or the belt.

After all of the work, is the belt noise gone????

Yes it is the center pulley. I assure you it is the tensioner, I took the picture ten minutes after I put it on. It is smooth and I think it will be okay, I just don't like that it's running so close to the edge of the pulley. I guess it is what it is.

OK, then it looks like you have mistakenly installed the wall less idler pulley on the belt tensioner. Put it right & the belt noise will likely go away. Let us know how it goes.
