Low Mileage oil change?

Hello all,

Bought a 5 gallon bucket and gallon container of rotella to do oil changes on the van and truck.

The truck hasn't seen 1000 miles of service this year, but its also been a year since I've done an oil change.

1) Should I change oil and filter or just oil? (installed fl1995 filter at last service)
2) Is a year interval ok or should I do it more frequently?

When its operated it does get driven at least 20 miles and gets a good heat cycle, so dunno if that makes a difference on the idi's

Thanks

The manual says to change the oil every 2500 miles. After a year, it wouldnt hurt to change it. Change the filter too. And I hope you bought more than 1 gallon of oil. Your engine holds 10-11 quarts.

Service manual? I figured it would probably be a good idea, BMW's recomend at least once a year if you don't hit the service due indicator.

Correct, 5 gallon bucket of rotella plus another gallon = 24 qts, 2 idi's with PSD filters so I'll have a little extra for top up when necessary

Generally 6 months or every 3,000 is what we do on our PS
I'm sure you'll be fine if you don't beat the truck with once a year oil changes at 2,500 miles a year.

Mine gets it every 3-5k depending on weather and how ive been using it. But yes, if its been over a year it needs changed. IMO, best to change in the spring after freezes, so no more condensation gets in.
