1985 ford f250 idi

So I'm selling the 1985 ford f250 with the pig of a 460 and getting a 1985 ford f250 extended cab 4x4 6.9 diesel with 4 speed. I'm really wanting to do a 7.3 powerstroke turbo and intercooled on it. Is the wastegate adjustable on a 7.3 turbo, and has anyone ever used the custom cams they sell on this site, Camshafts I'd also like to intercool it, is it worth it even if I'm only gonna run 10-15 psi of boost (depending on if I get arp studs) any help is appreciated, also kinda want to do he351 turbo

The turbo from a Powerstroke puts out way too much boost for the 6.9. You'll blow the heads off. The intercooler is a good idea, though. Search Moose turbo, on Google. It's a small company that is getting very good reviews on http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/. It's one of the very few companies that show the IDI a little love.

Not if you put a boost controller on it. Check out this video.
I'll look at that site, but I'm not gonna pay an arm and a leg for a turbo

Have you bought the 85 yet? If you want to play around with diesels and do all the stuff the magazine guys do, you should get a later truck with the more modern engine in it.

The 6.9 doesn't have much power to begin with, and the head bolts are a known weak point. It's a great engine for pulling and towing, and will last a lot of miles, but it's not very fast. And it's limited by it's injection system and the indirect injection setup it has.

I think you will be disappointed and always behind the other guys with the more modern engines. They do make kits to put the cummins in the Fords.

I don't really need to keep up with the modern diesels, just want something that will make people turn heads when I drive by, and something reliable. I haven't bought it yet, the guy buying my truck is skepticle because my truck has a tail light issue because of a trailer brake gone wrong, (when I touch the brake pedal the reverse lights come on) where can I find a wiring harness, or what colors are the brake, and reverse light wires going in and out of the harness.

Here's the wiring. Look on the right side of the diagram, it shows the wire colors.

Take a trip a few forums down, the IDI is well supported here, and one of the other companies that supports it is present right here on this board.
