hard to start after sitting

my dad's 89 Bronco II runs fine and starts easy if it's been driven recently. but if it sits over night or 8 hours when he's at work, it cranks for a long time before it'll fire. you can hear the fuel pump coming on with the key so I don't think that's it. any help yall might have would be greatly appreciated. it's got the 2.9L V-6 and 5 speed manual.

Have you run a fuel pressure check?

not yet but it's on the list. I'm 3 hours away from the truck so I'm getting a list of things to check this weekend. that is definitely on there. hoping someone will have some thoughts I aint come up with yet. also planning on cleaning the throttle body real good and going over the ignition system. the fuel pump and relay are both less than a year old so I'm hoping that's not it.

Did you ever figure what the problem was? My '88 is doing the same thing. I just took the filter off and it is partially clogged. Am doing to replace it and check the pressure tomarrow.

For what it's worth, I remember reading another thread some time ago about part of the filter system was a one way valve. This prevents the system from draining back to the tank and loosing pressure completely. Try turning the ignition switch on and off several times to cycle the pumps. Or you can check the fuel rail and see if it has a pressure relief valve as was mentioned. This is used to relief pressure before removing the fuel rail. This would let you know it you have a fuel pressure problem to the rail.

No pressurre at the fuel rail. Changed the fllter and still none. Turns out the fuel pump on the frame was bad. Ordered a new one. What a pain getting the old one off, well protected.

Ours turned out to be a HUGE piece that had cracked off of the fuel pump in the tank. Swapped that and it runs great now

thought I had it but won't idle. Starts and runs for a couple seconds and shuts off. Back to the drawing board.
