1984 2wd 460 swap into a 1978 4wd F250 with the 400m automatic

So i've got a 1978 f250 4x4 with the 400 in it. the top end of the 400 is ok, but it needs new bearings. my plan was swap it out for a 460 out of an 84 f250 2wd. The 460 is a great running motor with relatively low miles. I know I need new engine mounts, but I was curious as to what else I really need and don't need. Will the alternator, and p/s pump brackets off the 460 work or do I need new brackets, also the 78 has factory a/c and I would like to keep the a/c. I've got both trucks ready to pull the motors out, I'm just weighing my options. I don't know if i'm better off just putting new bearings in the 400, or if I should do the swap. I really don't want to Get stuck spending a bunch of money doing a swap

welcome to FTE. if you have the proper mounts and towers for the 460, it will be a direct blot in. you can use the 400 trans on the 460, they share the same bellhousing bolt pattern. AC will not be a problem either, just find an AC compressor bracket for the 460 and bolt it all together.

So the towers of the, 84 will bolt onto the 78 frame? I've got all the brackets, and everything off the 460 minus an a/c bracket which I'm sure I can find easy enough. What about the oil pan? Do I need a 4wd pan? Or will.the one that's on the 2wd 460 work? The 460 still resides in the truck. Everything's unbolted, and the motor is ready to come out, I'm just waiting until I get all my ducks in a row To pull it, And thank you for the welcoming.

not sure on the 84 towers and pan into the 78, what i meant was that you could get a 460 in the 78 79 trucks, so the towers and oil pans are out there
