Evaporator Coil leak

Just dropped truck off to get a quote on what its going to run me for an evaporator coil leak. Anyone have any experiance with it? Saw the green oil dripping out of the evap tube on the firewall

at only 62K miles this s*cks. Never had a evap coil leak before. Hoses, compressors, condensor coils, and dryers but not a evap coil.

Well just talked to Ford. They pressure checked a/c system. And just like I thought its the Evap coil. And just like I feared they have to pull the dash out to fix it. So with the diagnostic were talking $1687 to tear down, fix, put back together and recharge the system. P*sses me off on such a new truck to have that kinda issue and for it to cost that much.

I'd go to another dealer. Others here and myself had had Ford charge $1200 for the same. This is a problem that is common. Some say it's so easy to take the dash out but I couldn't deal with it. If you wait you may kill your compressor. Ford has Ford service credit cards with no interest for 12 months. I did that so I can take some time and pay it off.
Search here and you may find the postings on this. One guy with 60k got a big break from Ford. Not me. I had to pay $1800 for the combo compressor and evaporator.

Id be scared to take the dash of with all the wires and plastic. Thing would rattle if I did it. I'll call around thats not a bad plan see what I can come up with. Yes turned everything off so it doesnt burn up the compressor. Course going to get cold this week and no defrost But if everyone comes back taking it in Wednesday get it overwith. Only 1 good thing is now it comes with a 2 yr unlimited milage warranty on it. Just never had an evap go out is what kills me.

Well I guess it's in the same boat as our beloved radiators. Cheap construction pushing the limits of weight and price. One has to give doesn't it?

Well the evap is around $400 and they figure a day to do it. Which they might do in less time.

Dude take the dash apart, it's not HARD. There are hardly ANY wires. I can take the dash apart in less then an hour. You can still drive the truck like that. I mean ****, a couple of hundred dollars is a couple of hundred dollars right??

Been there, done that. Had it repaired at Ford and thankfully covered under warranty. When they take the dash off, they really take it off, practically everything down to the firewall. Someone posted a picture of it being done on their truck not long ago. Sorry to hear this happened to you, it actually happened to me at almost the exact same mileage. I'd second the Ford Service CC too if that's something you're in to.

That's what I thought too. The steering wheel has to be pulled as well. Maybe the seats have to come out to make room for the dash to come out.

Got a 2nd quote from another dealership across town they were $5 different on the quote. If it was like the old trucks Id do it myself but me and plastic dont always get a long very well. Plus still would have to vac pulled and recharged. So I'll just bite the bullet and take it in tomorrow morning and let them have at it.

Thanks Crystal for trying to help out, thats just one that Corp Ford wouldnt help me with.

Ford goes by book time on repairs so labor should be the same with the varience being in what they charge for the part.
