Time will tell. I remember the same questions being asked four years ago regarding the now well-respected 3.5L Ecoboost engine.

I think it will be a great engine, but until they are released in mass numbers you never know.

I think it will be even more robust than the 3.5, especially given that it has a compacted graphite iron block. It wouldn't surprise me if the 3.5 is replaced with a 2nd generation version of it at some point.

I don't think block strength is going to be an issue in either engine. People aren't trashing the block on the 3.5L even when worked hard, so I don't think that's going to be a big concern.

I'm really hoping the 2015s have that second generation. A couple of years ago I was reading about some of the next generation tech they were looking at for the EB motors. Things like cooled EGR to increase combustion efficiency and some other neat things.

For whatever it's worth, there are some interesting things on Youtube if you do a search on "ecoboost issues".

Yup, they definitely haven't been completely without their issues. But for the most part they've been outstanding engines even under severe use. I can think of only one circumstance where someone blew one up that I can remember over the last three years.

I doubt it will run into any major issues other than the normal growing pains new engines tend to go through.

Ford test's all their engines and drive trains relentlessly, they have a reputation to uphold, they aren't going to let a completely inferior engine slip into production.

I thought highly enough of the 3.5L to buy a 1st gen Job 1 engine that was built in Jan 2011. No issues after 41 months and 44K miles.

I'd buy another ecoboost of any size without hesitation.

Here's the latest issue with the 3.5 Eco Boost. Because of the timing chain stretch issue makes me wonder if this is the reason the 2.7 Eco Boost has two shorter timing chains rather than one long one.

I find it interesting & encouraging. "The way of the future."
Did you know, the 2.7l EB comes with an engine sound that plays through the sound system? I guess it just doesn't make enough noise on its own. I find this feature rather ridiculous, myself.

All this high-tech stuff bothers me, personally, plus I can't justify buying a NEW vehicle. I respect those who can.
Sticking with my 94 Ranger & 96 F150 until further notice. phoskins signing off...

It´s not a matter of blowing a block or not when chosing CGI. It´s a matter of rigidity and lower noise. When the block is made of stiff CGI the pistons are more tight to the cylinderwalls and you will have less "blow by" in the cylinders. Making the whole engine more powerful with less fuel.

In a previous job, I was fortunate enough to have Ford proving grounds as one of my Customers. Out of respect to my Confidentiality Agreement I can't tell you too much but I can tell you this; What I saw at Ford during my many visits made me buy Ford products.

The 2.7 was almost definitely tested in ways that it would be almost impossible for the you to replicate (not that you would even try). I would be very surprised if the 2.7 is not excellent.

Every manufacturer has issues with suppliers i.e. sensors, actuators etc. But the engines themselves, made by Ford, are tough and not by accident.

The service adviser at my dealer told me Friday that he had an opportunity to got to Vegas for some Ford convention thingy. Anyway, he went on to say that he drove the 2015 in all engine configurations and commented that the 2.7L felt just like the 3.5L.

Perhaps the perfect engine for the weekend warrior who likes to tow some and work some.

Quite frankly, I want to hear more about the NA 3.5L.
