Jim, Do you think a Ford HD E4OD would hold up to your stage 1's at full potential?

If so, how much do you think I could sell a perfectly fine standard E4OD for?

Once I get the 97 paid off this spring, I'll be ready to start buying goodies. The stock E4OD is a major roadblock though. But at the same time I don't feel like dropping $4k+ into a built transmission.

Doesn't look like Phil is online right now so I'll take a stab at it. He just got out of college, bought a really nice 97 and has a baby on the way. Probably broke as all get out!! (maybe a house too, can't remember)

Am I close Phil? If not, or even if I am, I'll mind my own business next time, LOL

Phil, $4k is not what it costs. A well-built JW like I got was $2900 plus install.

You're correct Glenn. I bought the 97 two years ago in June. And a house in January this year. Baby was born today. So yeah I'm pretty much broke lol.

Byron, $2900 + install + shipping from CA to IN would be right about $4000.

Really? Install was $350 and shipping should be decent. Just call him and talk to him before you make any decisions. If you have a place to do the install it's really pretty straightforward if you're just pulling one out and putting the new one in. The guy that did my install had the old one out in about 45 minutes and the new one in about an hour and a half. I just want you to get the best thing you can get for your money before you spend the money to get a Ford Reman.

Congrats on baby!
I feel ya, I don't have a payment on the truck-but I'm still in an APT .. BBslider has given me some good Info that I'm going to go with.. I'm in my last semester of college (3 weeks left) and couldn't drop 4400+ shipping for a full on BTS, etc. I've been parting out the truck I bought originally to swap a 5spd into mine, and am almost to the needed cash to get the EconoHD. A few weeks and I'll be there. I think I'm going to pawn some other toys to get a new HPOP and oversized trans cooler while I'm doing the trans. If you have any mechanical experience the swap isn't bad. I've almost got mine out, it is straightforward. With the HP I'll be at for the next few years (mid 300's) the Econo HD should be fine for my daily driver if JWoods runs it behind his 500hp play truck.

As for the ford reman units (HD), my dad is a service writer for our local Ford dealer.. Ford doesn't care much about aftermarket mods for warranty, but it has a 2 year limit. It could get replaced a couple times, but only up to the 2 year mark. I can get a much better build JW trans for roughly the same price if I install it myself-That's the route I'm going

Hey, was just wondering what you ever did with the trans? Did you go with the JW or Ford HD Reman?

Hey here's my update!

After many considerations I called a local trans shop. Come to find out they are a dealer for a large aftermarket dealer in my state. They build thousands of transmissions yearly and billet tc in house. I talked to the owner directly, felt confident (they have a large operation) and with the killer warranty (3yr/100k miles) no cost I went for that!
It came out at $3k installed, and 10k miles so far it's been awesome (now that my tuning is dialed in!)
Has a transgo tugger VB, and has changed the truck completely. I've been happy so far.
Don't get me wrong, I would have gone with a BTS or JW if I wanted to do any racing or pulling. It's been great for me!
