What's your best MPGs? And How?

Thanks everyone this rig is a real head turner as it is my daily driver and toy. I'm out in Surprise AZ if anyone wants to come down here for a few spins I'll even let you open her up and fly down a couple of trails. This truck was originally a mud drag and sand drag truck. This truck was a few trophies before I took it under my wing. I spent a lot of time to make it daily driver and street able.

What's your best MPGs? Starting AOD conversion
Ok so it has been awhile since I started this thread. I went with 3.50 gears and the truck is running good except the C4 tranny is bad. So I'm starting my AOD conversion. So I have a few questions for the group to make my install a little easier.
I picked up a 1991 Tbird 5.0 and will be using the AOD. This AOD conversion is pretty common but a few things I have questions about.
1. Will I have to go with a floor shifter? The Tbird has a floor shifter but I wanted to keep the column shift
2. The speedo is electrical, can I use my existing cable on my 68 F100?
3. My original radiator has a leak so good time for an update. I'm thinking the Champion radiator with the tranny cooler. Anyone use this with good results?
4. I would like to go with some long tube headers. Any bolt ons out there?
Anything that will make this easier? My 1968 F100 has a 351w with a Holley carb and 3.50 gears. I'm ordering the Lokar kit for the TV cable
Thanks for your help
Kenny

My truck's PO was a little old guy who wanted to squeeze every mpg possible out of the truck - according to his son who sold it to me. So there is a vacuum gauge in the cab and a small tach, presumably to keep him from putting his foot in it. I generally get around 15mpg running around the country roads I drive. I have not really taken it on a highway trip to test that mileage except coming home where it was loaded with my Harley. But, here are a couple things I have learned about mpg's and trucks...
1. Tires are the biggest issue. Run a normal size tire and you can have mpg's - add a bigger, heavier tire and you immediately cut into mpg's. When I used to ride road bicycles I remember reading an article that measured the effect of putting a sensor for mph (a tiny little plastic piece) at the end of a spoke versus closer to the center. It was amazing the added energy needed to turn the wheel. Rotating weight is a killer to efficiency.
2. Electric fans really help! Again, due to the rotating weight of the fan, it just sucks power and efficiency. A worthy investment if you get one designed big enough to keep things cool.
3. Premium gas will help but I am not sure it is anything more than breaking even at best for the money. IT probably helps the engine over the long haul, but in terms of sheer economics, I don't think it saves you anything.
Just a couple things that seem to matter. I think the rest of the efficiencies could come from aerodynamics. I saw a Dodge diesel they got 30 mpg out of by driving 55 and shaving and covering anything that created drag. They had cardboard over the wheels taped on with duct tape to create less dish in the wheel, for instance. Not too much you can do with a bump to make it aerodynamic - lol.

69, 3 on tree, on a fresh rebuild, stock 360 but 30 over. 2.75 gears out of LTD.
Dallas, Tx to Memphis, Tn 23MPG with a/c on. Great on the highway, not for poop in town.
1st to 50mph, 2nd to 70mph, 3rd to however big your giggles berries are.
From then to now, I've tried all kinds of combos because I didn't want to puke the $3K for a gear vendor. I've prolly spent twice that now....

If your engine has enough TQ to keep the eng. vacuum up in 3th 4th & 5th gears all while drive in all types of road conditions like hills and cross an head winds is the only way to get best mileage.
It's the only real way to know for sure that your getting max peak mgp with or with an o/d.. Yes it's old skool stuff
But what, I've found out is most people diver different when trying to get better gas mileage. If your not towing or have a c/o camper on it.
And if you see a Chevy or Dodge truck your heart rate may change the you push on the gas pedal leaving the stop light.
If, I saw a steep hill coming up, I would build up my speed get going fast enough to keep my speed up so, I don't have to move into slow lane behind a line of 18 wheelers.
Where I'd have to grab 3rd gear follow all the trucks until I topped the hill and pass all the trucks.
