fuse 20 was gone.
Well, that was easy.

Is there a way to jumper the brake switch to check if that is malfunctioning?
Not really. You'll need to use a voltmeter to check the operation of the SPDT portion of the BPP switch. I do not have wiring diagrams at hand this morning.

If it is all normally open that would be great just unplug.
Nope, can't do that.

Not sure now the brake interacts with the 4x4,
The brake position status is an input to both the 4X4 and the speed control subsystems. Both systems expect that input to be either a ground or a +12V signal. If, for example, the output of the switch is open or "floating", the input state to those modules would be "undefined" and there's no way to be certain (without advanced information) of how those modules will respond to that condition.

That's my best guess. It may be right, half-wrong, or all wrong, but it's the best I can do without advanced info of the internal electronics. Fortunately, it's easy to check with a meter once you identify an appropriate test point.

Mine is doing the same thing, 4x4, cruise, horn, instrument cluster illumination, and mine now at Idle revs up and down and sometimes dies, I was told by several people it's a common problem and it's the GEM module going bad.

Kenny, please stay in your own original thread. Please do not hijack another as as it just confuses things.

Your vehicle is very different and the symptoms are markedly different.

Sorry, .I wasn't trying to step on anyones toes, I was just relaying a message from the ford technician I talked to. he said when multiple things go out like that, it is usually the gem model because it controls a lot of functions of your truck ie lights windows horn four-wheel-drive, cruise control, excetra.

UPDATE

FIXED

4x4 was the transfer case motor.

Cruise was bad connection at the recall mod at the master cylinder.

I had grabbed a clutch switch bypass plug from an automatic truck. initially that thought this was the issue, because the computer was seeing the clutch in AND out at the same time. Since I knew the switch was bad we replaced it. No effect on cruise then was able to see lask of proper brake signal.

Pulled the motor of the t-case and is was shot, t-case shifted fine by hand so replaced the motor.

Oil leak in the valley got really bad. It was the unserviceable plug. Got the kits from dieselorings.com fixed the plug and replaced all other o-rings. Oil leak gone clutch starting to come back in. Will probably pull trans and clean everything and turn flywheel. I replaced clutch with hi performance model and it has always slipped. The supplier claims the factory lywheel is concave and their clutch is made for perfectly flat. We did not know this, and flywheel looked super so we just reassemled.

Horn i have not got into.

Got 4 steel rims and 6 new treadwright bead to bead remolds in their warden II (BFG AT) tread. They look great cost was good and shipped fast. will start a thread on thse to track how they do long term.
