I had a mechanic take a look at it and he said it is a good deal if I could get it for $1200. It was not neglected and is in OK condition. If I could get it for that much, would it be worth it?

If no, then you are correct in not wanting to pay more than blue book. Was that the "poor" "Good" or "excellent" blue book value?
The only thing he did that is new is the electrical system. The entire thing other than the alternator

$1200 for a 1995 sounds like a good deal.

1200 for a running and driving truck like that sounds like a great deal to me, it all depends on where you are and what the market is like. Rust of any kind would be a pass though - if I was looking for it. In most places it is unavoidable, but it is a killer that isnt easily stopped.

Oh, and personally again, I would try to get a v8, they are much more enjoyable to drive as a runaround truck.

$1200 for a running, driving rust-free truck only is possible if you go back to 1980 with your time machine. If you're going to pass on $1200 trucks that have rust you're going to leave a lot of trucks available for the rest of us.

yeah. I have a 5.7 Hemi right now in my durango and if that thing goes (its about to rust through the trunk and I dont feel like repairing it) I was thinking of possibly putting that in the truck.

That would be quite a challenge.

if you have a mechanic who has seen, driven and inspected the truck and has deemed it a good deal, then i would say that his input supercedes those of us who haven't even seen a grainy picture of it.

You've got my blessing to buy this one if OP passes on it

I think I'll pass too. I'm not looking for a $1200 truck. But if I was, I'd expect either a rust bucket or something that wasn't drivable.

My truck was only 600 dollars. And it had lots of little issues, but almost no rust. Just got done replacing the slave cylinder and line. I knew it had clutch issues. But when it drove down the road and 4wd worked, I couldn't whip out my money fast enough.

A sacrilegious thought if I've ever heard one.

It'd be OK if he was planning on putting it in the bed to haul it somewhere!
