Of the 7 times I have gone to/from Canada I was never asked about fuel... and I wouldn't volunteer how much I had either.

There is a USA (and probably Canadian too) "safety" limit (Code of Federal Regulations) on how much fuel you can have by CFR, but I don't think that applies to pickups and especially towing a trailer. Think about it, I get 18 unloaded, but pulling at max weight I get 8 and I have a 26 gal. tank... I need more fuel or I won't make it from fuel station to fuel station. However, this does apply to passenger cars/vans. Paraphrasing the statute: You can't carry aux fuel in a greater quantity than the max size fuel tank your car could have come with.

As I know Roy is already aware of, all you need to bypass the $8 fuel is around a 400-500 mile range. It is nice to bypass some of the $5-$6 fuel stops too.

As far as wanting your money, you do know that after you visit Canada you can apply to get a portion of the Canadian taxes you paid back?

Roy - I will look some things up for you as well. So you can make the appropriate decisions. Get the tank you want and worst case, only put XX gals. of fuel in it and when you cross the border, fill up in Alberta where the fuel is still cheaper than the wilds of Canada.

100 Gal, plus the stock tank is a lot of fuel... Roughly 6 lbs a Gal X 138 is 828 lbs extra...

If he really needs more fuel than get a replacement STOCK tank too...

Do you do truck accessory stuff for a job AlaskanEX in Anchorage? Seeing as I live in Anchorage and haven't found a good place to go to yet.

Not to be a smart azz.........
I just looked up the weight of diesel fuel. It does vary depending on such factors as #1 or #2.......Temperature.....However, 7 Lbs per US Gallon is considered the rule of thumb.

38 in the main tank.....plus 90 in an Aux tank = 128 Gallons

896 Lbs........Part of the reason to have the Dually.

At 9 miles per gallon........1,152 miles.....with reserve......1000 mile range.

Should do away with corrosion problems......

There are some military aircraft that use the onboard fuel to cool the leading surfaces of the aircraft..........

I used to use 7-8 lbs and then I kept getting rudely correct to 6 lbs... Especially this new ultra-refined stuff called ULSD that we have now.

One day, I will weigh the plastic 5 gal can, but exactly 5 gallons in it and weigh it and see... Either way, yes it is a good reason if you want to carry a lot of extra fuel on board to have the dually.

Almost regretting I didn't get a dually this time around (not that any were on the damn lot).
