Thanks guys, piecing this together, is like building a dog, having never seen one. I hope that it doesn't come out looking like a bat.. (sort of an ugly mouse with wings).. I have the older style cast compressor support bracket, a Sanden 506 compressor, an old Fridgeking cab unit, perhaps from a dealer installed in the late 60's, a new dryer, and old used condenser. And... a new 3 groove pulley, that fits on the crank, where my 2 groove pulley is now. It is cast & heavy, like the vibration dampener pulley that came stock on my 300 IL Six.. I will try to take some photos later, and include the power steering & brackets for that. I used the 'canned ham' style pump that came with, or on the Econolines in the 70's... just to confuse things a bit more. I need a challenge every day, or I just don't feel right...

high pitch squeal. I have a belt running directly from the 3rd sheave pulley to the a/c. I am thinking this is my problem and want to put an idler pulley as shown in the illustration that was posted in page 1.

Please take a look at how I ran the belt directly from the pulley to the compressor. Clearly, this is different than how Ford did it back in 1967 as the image below will show. Is this part of the reason for the squeal? If I were some how able to add a small pulley (possibly an idler) to the right of the alternator would this solve the problem. Everything is lined up. Interestingly, when I eased up the tension on the belt, the squeal was eliminated. However, the belt was very loose.

I would be able to run a small bracket from the idler pulley to the smog pump bracket than is not in use. Obviously, I would run a spacer behind the idler to line things up to the 3rd sheave. Any ideas or thoughts would greatly be appreciated.

A few things that it could be.
Is it a correct belt or a cheap one?
I've used chalk applied to one side of the belt to isolate which side of the belt is causing the noise. As doing this while engine is running is very dangerous apply to exiting side of a pulley so you won't be pulled into the pulley. Also what is the condition on the pulley v groove ? If the pulley has a mirror glaze like V walls can also cause for making a belt noises. I've used a wire wheel on the hand drill to break the mirror glaze for a better belt grip that stopped the belt noise.

Hola amigos,
I have been out of the loop for awhile, and will try to catch up. Thanks Rich, for the hint on the used condenser, but it would not fit in front of the radiator, behind the grill, so ordered a new universal one. The shipping fiasco from Florida, to Baja, took over 4 weeks, and meanwhile, an opening at the paint & body shop came up, so the A/C got bumped until after the new paint job was done... Been raining for 2 days now, so final paint polish delayed. Meanwhile, the condenser & new windshield rubber arrived, but my time has run out in Baja, so A/C is delayed until Nov. when I return.
I did however, get the compressor mounted, and made an adjustable mount bracket for the Sanden compressor.. photo attached I hope.. Belt adjustment is via a 3/8" bolt, and jam nut, on the end of the home made mount. So far, it all works fine, but condenser & hose mounting will have to wait...
