Diesel Swap, beta phase questions

s WHY IS MY ?
call Gear Vendors and get a overdrive for your trans auto or stick. They give you 8 speeds if you have a 4 speed or 10 speed for a 5 speed. If yourndoing 2800 at 60 you would reduce that buy using their conversion. Cost about $2500 considerable less than a swap & they can handle really high torque & hp. Increasing milage

I don't know what sentimental value your truck has to you, but you're better off finding another truck that has everything you want. Like Brad said, the 6.9 is a safer bet that the 7.3, you never know if the PO checked the coolant enough and used the additives to avoid cavitation. The cummins swaps are awesome, but like everyone said, it will cost a lot, most likely more that the truck is worth, but the Cummins are great motors. Brad suggestion of the DT360 is cool, but alas it is more work, and from what I've seen, they're harder to find than the other motors. As for gear vendors, they're great, I'm looking to put one on my truck, but since yours is 4x4, the price I've seen is around $3,500 to $3,800 plus the cost of a new or modified rear driveshaft. But that will only give you a slight boost in MPG (I think they say about 20% on a big block). You'll still be burning more fuel that a stock diesel.
