OT - RIP Tom Magliozzi (Click, or was it Clack?)
Sad to hear of Tom's passing. While he and Ray didn't talk much about trucks, they knew how to enjoy time together and actually seemed capable mechanics. I've picked up a tip or two from them - between the guffaws and rants on goofy topics.

When I heard about this last night it made me really sad. Normally the death of a celebrity doesn't bother me too much but this one did. I really enjoyed their show and the banter back and forth between each other and their callers.
RIP Tom, I also want to say "Take care" to his brother Ray, you could tell they had a very good, strong brother to brother relationship.

I've been listening to Click & Clack since they were on a local Boston station in the mid-1980's. Before the NPR days.
It was really good entertainment and it was common for the radio to be tuned into it on Saturdays and Sundays in the garage. Even my wife liked the show, she thought it was a hoot.
There is now a void for that type of radio program - no doubt it will get filled since I heard that Car Talk had the highest listener ratings ( which = $$$$$) than any other NPR program. I hope that something gets created that had many of the same elements as that one.
If the program is 100% all about fixing cars it probably wouldn't fly for the general public. But us guys would like it.

MIT grads in engineering. Tom quite his job and collected unemployment. Their mom asked Ray to come back to Boston to help Tom out. They started a do it yourself garage where they provided the tools and advice. Just about went broke until they just took over doing all the work. Then started the radio show. He will be missed. We need more people like them that just don't take themselves so seriously. They had fun and wanted others to have it also.

What a shame I remember driving to the farm with my dad, and anytime we could get Car Talk to come on the radio was a great time, because I would always ask my dad to say what the caller's car trouble was before they answered with their advice. Many times they agreed, and it was really cool to me, it seemed like my dad and them somehow magically communicated when they came up with the exact same answer. Sometimes they'd disagree and my dad would either explain why they were wrong, or he'd rethink for a bit and possibly reconsider. This is one of my fondest memories of any driving trip with my dad. I loved the show, and it's very sad for me to read about his passing.

Tom and Ray had a lot of fun and really did know quite a bit about cars. I listened to them until they began playing repeats after Tom got sick. Two very intelligent guys (both had degrees from MIT) who were just normal. They grew up in a working class family and did very well. A very rare pair. Good luck to Ray!
