Oil coming from timing chain cover

I have a 93 F250 4x4 351ci automatic trans.......tracked down an oil leak finally and it is coming from what I think is the timing chain cover.....it is leaking behind the water pump.....there is a another gasket up close to block and when accelerating oil will come up there ....I am thinking it might be the front seal on the motor....so that's the first question am I right? Second question how hard is it to fix it.....thanks

There is a timing cover gasket:

To replace it, you need a balancer puller to get that off the crank. Then it is unbolt things til you get the cover off. Typically you have to get alternator/power steering/a-c stuff out of the way to get to cover bolts. Unbolt the cover, clean everything up and reassemble. There is a new crank seal in the kit so install that too. Check the balancer seal surface and make sure it is not scored up. They make speedisleeves to fix that issue.

Now, if the motor has plenty of mileage you migth as well replace the chain set. A stock kit is cheap(like $30), so since you are in there, do it. Now, you have to put the chain on correctly or cam timing will be out of whack so you have to pay attention and read the instructions that come with the chain.

I would replace the waterpump at this time also. You have it apart and if it is old, what is another $30 at this point. How's the thermostat? You have the coolant drained, so might as well replace that.

Hoses? Coolant bypass hose on intake? You get the picture. You have it apart so you might as well cover the bases.

Just throwing things out there for you to consider.

I would also powerwash the affected area as well. It will help keep your working area clean as to mot drop trash into the oil pan and also help to see what all has to be removed.
