Apparently, after doing a bunch of research I have an NP435. When trying to get my dogs aligned and get the top cover back on, the shifter popped off and jacked-up my retaining cap...now I need to get a new one of those.

Can I still align the dogs the same way though??

Everything still applies.........but with an NP435, you don't have to worry about losing the 1/4" pin.

Your trans is a bit more fiddly to get the selector forks into place in my experience, mainly reverse.
Also pushing that shifter retainer down & twisting it into place isn't easy under the dash either, but.......both jobs are character-building

Yeah, the whole changing the clutch job...has been one big mess from the beginning. The retainer cap breaking, was just one more thing.

I was able to find the retaining cap at my local pick-n-pull. But, getting everything lined-up is kicking my ***...I guess I got the shifter forks in neutral, but I'm not sure about the trans gears :?

Even with the trans out on the floor it's not always easy getting all three forks engaged, with an NP435. I don't remember having much problem with T18/19's.

It's just perseverance that will get it.

If it helps, you can measure the spacing between the forks (when in neutral), then check that the gears are spaced exactly the same; but reverse is still difficult to engage when you can't see in there properly.
