Hey guys, got a buddy that that has a 2005 6.0 F350. He had it plugged in last night, started fine this morning, drove it a couple miles down the road to Hardees and shut it off. Came back out and it started but cranked alot longer than normal. He drove it about 2 hours to Carrolton Ky to a job site and he said it ran fine all the way. Now it won't start back. I'm thinking HPOP or FICM but he don't have any type of monitor. If he can get it back home I'll hook Torque Pro up for him and get some numbers. I told him to let it cool down completely and see if it'll start then. Any quick tips or suggestions that may keep him form having to have it towed 150 miles back home?
He can backprobe the ICP wires to verify whether or not he is getting the 0.82 volts needed to start. Also it is always wise to make sure the batteries are good and fully charged.
You could also unplug the icp wireing and see if it will start & run. If it does you can drive it that way for a little while and do no harm to get him home.
If it doesn't start and stay running you probably have a HP oil system leak.
Thanks guys. He got it started but said that it cranked slow. Said he has two mis matched batteries that are at least 4 years old. I'm thinking he's got bad battery issues. I told him to get new batteries then I'd hook it up and check his numbers for him.
Double check the Charging system weak batts dead FICM , need to Load test the Alternator, Load test battery's separate. anything under 45 vlt on the ficm is bad news, your alt need nothing under 13.3 good luck and post the results
Glad he made it , Remember on the Alternator Full load engine warm every light on, full fan Operation, headlights , radio, everything you don't want 13.3 and under, cold start to look at FICM mp should be 48.5/49.0
