wheel backspacing

wheel backspacing
I have a 74 f250 with the original 16.5" rims. I am going to get 16" aluminum rims and have several questions. I have looked through many threads on here to help me decide which width rim is preferred, and I think 8" is more common. Opinions? Also, I cant seem to find what backspacing (if any) is needed to avoid rub issues. The truck is stock height and I will not ever put a lift on it. I am also going to have to get fender exit headers due to the sway bar on the D60 I put on. I am not a fan of excessively wide tires, but I also don't want the original pizza cutter tires that came on these trucks. I am leaning toward 315/75/16's right now, and won't go higher than 35's. Any suggestions would be appreciated, especially on backspacing/offset.

These are stock rims (I think 4" backspacing?) with 235x75x16 tires. This is with the stock F250 TTB front end.
These are the same stock rims with 285x75x16 tires. This is after the D60 swap, front shock length about 18.75" bolt to bolt. Front stock bumper clearance may be an issue.
These are 35" tires on rims that are 9.75" wide with 4.5" of back spacing. Same front shock length as above. Front stock bumper clearance is an issue, cutting it or an aftermarket bumper that provides more is required.
These are 37" tires on the same 9.75" wide rims with 4.5" of back spacing. Same front shock length as above. Believe it or not, no rubbing on the leaf springs of fenders. Note the absence of a stock bumper.

LeoJr---I believe they are stock rims. I know they are 16.5"....or at least several of them are . The truck was sort of a hodgepodge of parts when we got it, and I think one of the rims may be 16". We also have 2 spares so I will double check. You will be first on the list when we sell them if you are interested. That's a nice looking rig you've got! I don't know the shock length as the truck is currently stripped to the frame. Thanks for the info, and I will let you know when we sell the rims. It wont be for a while though as this is not a short term project with timelines.

Thanks! I edited my inquiry out as it really doesn't help answer your questions.
The truck looks good because the previous owner took great care of it and the information I've found on these sites helped me take care of it.
Sound like you have quite the project! There are lots of very good build threads (and I'm sure you have found some) but these two are good reading....

LeoJr Sorry it took so long for me to get measurements, my wife was busy giving birth to our first kid. 7lbs8oz 20" girl named Aspen Paige. I also had to get my dad to measure them. He is in Co. with the truck and I am in Fl. We have 2 styles and sizes of 16.5" rims. There are 4 solid rims that have the nubs to attach hubcaps. I think these are original. They are 6 or 6.5 inch rims. When measuring the outside of the rims (not the bead), they are 7". All of the rims still have the tires on them. The other 2 are sort of spoked rims, with 8 triangle shaped holes around them. They are 8 or 8.5 wide (9.25 on the outside). All of them are steel and I will *attempt* to upload pics of each.
