1990 f150 sleeper, motor build
My old 90 f150 4x4 5spd had a 5.0 efi motor that could not hold oil pressure. Instead of just replacing or rebuilding the motor i have decided to build a new one entirely. What I have so far is a 90 mustang factory roller block and 94 cobra r gt-40 heads with crane 1-7 roller rockers and beehive springs. I'm boring it .30 and putting new cam bearings in. It is also getting a full forged rotating assembly by SCAT and speed pro 10.18-1 compression pistons (forged of course) I also plan to install a girdle. The cam is going to be a ford racing e303 with ford racing hydraulic roller lifters. I'm getting rid of the efi system and going to a carb setup with a holley 750 double pumper and endelbrock victor intake manifold with MSD distributor and box. I also plan to run only long tubes with turn downs and possibly a 100 hit of surf juice. Any comments or suggestions?

Since you are building the bottom end consider a 331 or 347 stroker.....

Honestly though OP if you wanted to make it to the point where someone opens the hood and sees a clean stock truck a tuneable maf setup would be the way to go. Plus you get all the benfits of not having to fight it to get it to start when its cold, it adjusts on its own for differences like air temp elavation and you don't have to open the hood and readjust a few screws to try and get it to make a pass just right.

Thanks for the input! I'm going carb because I want to make some serious hp numbers and if I wanted to do that with efi it would cost a lot more the way I priced it. I grew up around the dirt track so I'm no stranger to carbs and tinkering with them. I would just rather tune my motor with a screwdriver rather than a computer. I know i'm probably going to start a fire storm by saying that. It is true though an efi motor will make more power than a carb at normal RPM but at wide open a properly tune holley 750 double pumper with mechanical secondaries will produce more peak power if you have the motor to back it up. And yes I am going to go with a all forged 331 kit. Any good cam recommendations? The other reason for the carb is I love the sound!!! I'm shooting for 400hp before the smurf juice.

Or go with a custom cam. Too bad Camshaft Innovations closed their doors a few years ago. Cam Master Jay was a wizard
