Info for bracing Steering box/frame

I went through the entire front end and steering system, king pins, bushings, tie rods (Moog), steering box (redhead), rebuilt column, new rag joint, etc. Now I have some movement at the frame when wheel first turns. That translates to free play from three minutes before to three minutes after the hour on the wheel. It makes it a bear to control.

I want to eliminate that and would like to get photos of how other members have solved this problem. Thanks. k

Show us a pic of what your running. I ended up boxing the frame and going to a saginaw box outside of the frame, with some tight fitting sleeves for the bolts. The tightly fitting heavy wall tubing as a sleeve reamed to just fit a 7/16" bolt eliminates the possibility of play at the box. You could do the same depending on how your box is mounted. It may take making a sandwich plate to weld into the frame to take up any play in your mounting holes.

Thanks for the photos. They really help. I'm set up oem, just welded the cracks up when I had the engine out, but it's not good enough. Your work has pointed me in the right direction. In fact, I believe there is only two tubes that go through my frame.

I'll have to tackle that project, pull the box, and really look into fixing it once and for all. I love how you have your tie rods routed too. k
