Fenton...

A little more bling than I wanted on Mater but I found this one on Craigslist. Looks to be a NOS Fenton intake that was put away years ago just for Mater. . The Fenton is a close rival to the Offy for performance and will retain the stock fan components.
Anyone interested in an original Offy?

Wow, big difference in air flow. Shouldn't have any cooling problems....the Fenton and Offy are remarkably alike. Wouldn't be surprised if they came from the same foundry. We're doing the seat tomorrow and the Brockman "mufflers" will be here Friday. Mater may get to make his first run in 25 or 30 years this weekend!

Should sound fantastic. Nothing sounds as good as a flathead v8 ford with steel packs!

The Brockman steel packs were just right. Mater now has a nice warm tone. Still working on the seat, hope to go for a drive this weekend.
A few of you west coast guys may remember Ford Parts Obsolete. I found this 60s era decal on eBay. The Model T pictured was on top of their store for years and eventually was made into a street rod when Mac the owner sold it.

I was not happy with the SW tachometer I bought, I could not get the needle to settle down. It would bounce 2-400 rpm at idle. Bummer cuz it matched the gauges. Summit took it back and I went on the hunt.....

I found an NOS Dixco tachometer which sold under the Balkamp brand name. From the packaging im guessing it is from the 70s.
Look around your garage, if you find a 3 3/8" tachometer cup your not using give me a call.

I was trolling eBay for a Dixco tachometer cup and found one with a tach. So often it is pot-luck with older electronics, I figured the value was in having a cup for the Balkamp tach. When it arrived it was obviously used but not beat up. I wired it in and it worked well. So the other tach will stay in the box. Not much info on Dixco, so I'm not sure of the vintage. The seat upholstery has stalled. Maybe get it back by the end of this week.

I found a guy who had bought some parts from a Model AA truck restorer who had redone a flatbed 30 years ago. He had used the bed wood for shelves until a couple of weeks ago. I think this will work well to match the patina. It is well weathered but very solid. I will build an oak frame and more than likely use unpolished SS skid strips. It would be nice to find some used strips off of a flatbed, but that might be a challenge.
I painted the underside with satin black oil base paint. I sanded out some rough spots and used linseed oil on the tops.
I found a mid-60s Dodgers decal to go with the 60s motif and applied it to the rear window.

It's amazing what turns up from time to time on Craigslist!

I trailered Mater to the front end shop today. The front axle was out of spec. Using a hydraulic ram setup the mechanic was able to bring the axle in. Ran around the block and it steers well. The fella explained the difference in camber angle when changing from bias to radial tires. If I explain this correctly, the bias have more positive angle (top of wheels angle inward) which if left un corrected may cause excessive radial tire wear.
Forgot to take my camera.......
If the seat ever gets done I can take it out for a shake down cruise. The milk stool doesn't cut it for a 6 footer........
Found this bumper sticker he other day, cirrca 1968.

You are getting closer, good deal!
Have you considered a folding chair? That might work for a shake down cruise before you seat gets done. You need to get it out on the road asap.

A folding chair can... fold! I wouldn't risk an accident, just wait for the seat.

Those decals are a nice touch!

Another eBay find. 2 new ford ujoints. The ones sold locally are not thin in the center and won't clear the dust cap on the trans yoke. I also found a couple thou. difference in their width.
Nice to find some originals.

You don't see packaging like that any more. Good score!

During my build I had connected the carb choke heat tube directly to the exhaust port on my intake. The carb builder suggested that it be connected properly so that exhaust gas doesn't affect the choke. I stumbled across a Carb Choke Repair Kit on EBay. The nut pictured that screws into the intake absorbes the heat and brings in air through the holes to feed hot air to the choke. Will install this next time when I check the valve lash. The protector cover is a good idea, I lost track of the times I have touched the hot copper tube. As of this date there is one more left on eBay for $10.
