She idles fine but when I put her in gear (AT), she studders and dies, unless going downhill, then she drives fine until you have to start in first again.

Sounds like your idle speed is too low or perhaps a vacum leak

I pulled the plugs and they are black completely carbon'd up. Should I be looking for vacum leaks around the tranny? There are two lines going from the manifold to the tranny.

Could the timing being off foul the plugs?

I messed with the two vacum lines that go from the manifold down to the tranny and was able to get her kinda running in first gear. On my truck one of these two lines has a bolt in it and the other is hooked up to the vacum modulator on the C4. Where does the second vacum line go?

After all of my carb drama..it turned out to be the points...I dropped in a new set and set the point gap and it is starting and running better than ever!
