Ford head video,,,, FINALLY!!!!

This one had enough meat to trim. And it was not worthy for us to bolt on.

We were expecting to do a thou final cut pass,, it didn't work out that way.

I only watched about half the video, however I would guess that the heat treating of the valve seats caused the head to warp. It's evident that the heat treating happened after the head was originally machined due to the visible heat affected zone. This would make sense since the cutter was only cutting on the outer edges of the of the head, the heat treating caused the metal to shrink when it cooled resulting in the outer perimeter to draw up and creating a dish.

Sounds reasonable. Ford should know better. Sad they would take your money and ship it like that. Getting that info back to the proper person at Ford may help the next guy (maybe).

Good techs like you are hard to find. If that was done at a dealership I would bet that they would just toss them on the truck and be done. Then when you come back in 6 months with a blown head gasket they would be quick to blame a tune or something else. With the customer not even knowing that the heads where faulty to start with.

Can OEM headgaskets seal with that kind irregularity. 2/1000 seems incredibly small.

Yes the warp was within "spec". But are you gonna line up and feel good about a thousand bucks for the part and have confidence when you lean on the skinny pedal??? Not me. I have a phrase,,, it's a lil cocky,, But "perfect is the benchmark". Btw that head was inconsistent with the last head I got from Ford. Both of them are video documented. The last one had a good surface but was .014 below the 3.74 spec. Ford says the heads are not mill able, but I walked out of the dealership with a head that was 3.726. So I opted to not shave that one.

Great video, thanks for sharing.

Interesting how OEM parts are supposed to the best yet showing the head which costs so much could have been much cleaner.

You just change the specs to match the crap that IH sent out and call it good That is why the Ford techs hands were tied when repairing a vehicle, even OEM parts were trash.

Quality should be job one, that's why we need more shops like Super Duty Service so the 6.0 name doesn't get tarnished anymore than it is.
