Junk Fuses

Junk Fuses
Here's one, I don't know if it's been kicked around yet, CHEAP FUSES. Twice now, once on my F250 (tail lights) and on one of my cars (cigar lighter) I had a situation where a short developed and the fuse didn't blow. Both times it burned up a bunch of wiring under the dash and in the case of the truck all the way down the frame rail. Although I managed to fix both vehicles it can do extensive damage. Not worth it. I even conducted an experiment: I hooked up a "Good" fuse directly to the battery with jumper wires and a remote start switch. It blew instantly as soon as I hit the switch. Doing the same thing with one of the cheap ones it did not blow and the jumper started smoking. By "cheap" I mean the Made in China type junk you can buy at the discount tool store and places like that. I'd recommend that if you're not sure, look at the fuses in your vehicle and if there is any doubt just replace them with known good ones. One 2 cent junk fuse can cause a lot of grief. Hope somebody benefits from my experience.
