Black headliner with grey interior?

I took my headliner out of the 97 yesterday since it was sagging really bad. And I'm considering recovering it with a black material instead of the stock grey color.

Has anyone ever done this? If so how does it look with the rest of the interior being mostly grey?

I am sure it would look fine as long as it is not a contrasting color

I did it to mine. Looks good, only thing slightly questionable is the gray sun visors, but then again they kinda compliment the black.

I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Thanks Dixie, a pic would be great.

One of my sun visors has a rip in the fabric anyway, so I may just get them both re-upholstered in black.

I've thought about doing the whole interior in black with maybe a few grey accents. But I have a lot of other stuff on the truck to take care before I ever get into a full interior overhaul.

I'd love to do up an interior black as well with a nice black paint job to match. Hate to do all that work though when I'm still working on just making the thing move like greased pig down the side of mount Everest.

That's my intent with my truck. Black paint, black interior. Project darkness.

Alright, now don't mind the wrinkles in the fabric because I had to take the foam backing off when I did mine (it was flaking off) and didn't want to search all over for some decent foam to replace it, so that fabric is glued directly to the cardboard backing. I ironed it out real good when I originally did it, but bending the headliner/backing board to get it into the cab (thru the door instead of the rear window!) put wrinkles in it.

One of these days I'm gonna do an overhead console, so when the headliner comes out to do that I'll recover it again using foam behind the fabric like the factory did.

Thanks for the pic Dixie,
I'll probably go with black. The foam on mine isn't in bad shape except for on the edges, but I'm pretty sure the trim will cover that.

You're welcome! I like the black... just have to be sure and use the foam next time. Oh and BTW that material is actually a rectangular tablecloth that I bought from amazon. I went to the fabric store and their headliner material was real thin like the factory stuff (although IIRC it did have the foam already on the back) so I got the tablecloth instead. Much more durable so when it's dirty I can just wipe it down with a wet rag or whatever.

I was just planning to go to the local fabric shop, but I might check out amazon instead if I don't like anything locally.

Black and gray go well together. Chances are your dash has black accents, black steering wheel, gauge cluster, vents, etc., anyway, so it won't clash. Black would be a cool custom touch. I'm planning on recovering my Ranger's headliner one day, if I do, I'll post a thread on it.
