There is a plug on the driver's side of the trans near the cv joint. Take the plug out while its hot and running and fluid should drip out if its full. If it runs out its overfull and if nothing comes out then its low.
I mistakenly look at a MKX owner's manual and it has a dip stick but you have to remove stuff to get to it. A lube level hole like that is almost like an old manual transmission.
Just an odd way of monitoring it. But I will inquire anyway when I take it in for first service if they have a way of checking in better then a flashlight on peeking into the hole.
GM used a similar problem in the late 90's. My 06 GT didn't have a stick either, and it had one weird a$$ service procedure. It's all part of the plan to get people back into the dealership bays.
Just thinking here. Is that the same trans that is in the Focus? If so, it is a dual clutch by Getrag. It is supposed to be a sealed for "lifetime" service. Ford's definition of lifetime is 100k.

The select shift trans in the focus is what could be called an automated manual, there is a clutch and heavy servos to move the shift forks, the select shift in the Escape and the MK c is a full on automatic complete with torque converter.
