Doing an egr delete and just removed the old up pipe with the expansion joint. I noticed the new solid up pipe is about 1/4" longer than the old up pipe. Is this normal? Is it possible the old up pipe shortened a little after it was removed? I know there is an expansion joint in the y pipe, so perhaps it compresses to fit.

Yes, I would think it is the flex joint.

 

The flex joints are designed to stretch a little. The OEM can stretch a little, the aftermarket versions like Vibrant are designed to stretch quite a bit.

The flex on the y-pipe can make upa little of difference, but not much. Hence why so many of that particular flex joint crack when combined with solid passenger up-pipes.

Well, I installed the up pipe without too much effort. I'm leaving the exhaust manifold connection bolts loose until I get the turbo locked down. If it doesn't work out, I'll post about my exhaust leak creating low boost.
