diesel conversion f250 cummins, detroit or 7.3?

I was roaming around on Craigslist the other day and I came across a 2000 f250 for $1800 no rust or anything it ended up not having an engine but it had had a 5.4 triton which I know some guys that have 3/4 tons with the triton in them and they are horrible on gas so my idea was to buy a

8.2 detroit is a huge piece of junk, and that's me being nice.

Easiest of course will be the 7.3 as you can do it all with junkyard factory parts and the 7.3 is a pretty decent motor.

Thanks for the reply I really do not know all that much about those littler detroits I am used to 12.6's I believe that what my dad has, I would like a detroit not necessarily a 8.2 the 7.3 is really the last option I want something unique

There is no detroit diesel that is suitable or worth installing in your truck.

The 12.6 in the 18 wheelers is a whole different class of motor and was developed when Roger Penske first bought DD, it is a modern well designed motor, the 8.3 and its cousin the 6.2 are a very old design and are JUNK.

It's your truck, you do as you wish, but a detroit is a mistake for your truck.

Do the Cummins if you can't stand to do it the easiest way.
