What size/capacity is the factory trans cooler?

The oil-to-air heat exchanger behind the grill that comes with the tow package, anyone know how many BTU it's rated for?

My radiator blew a side tank seal so it's time for a new one. Not fond of using the radiator's built in trans cooler, so since it's cooling off here I'm gonna run JUST the external trans cooler behind the grill and see what happens.

If it turns out I do need more capacity, I'll need to know what the capacity of the existing cooler is so I can go larger. Yes I could just get a physically larger one, but it would be nice to figure it out the right way.

Anybody know that info, or does anybody that lives in a similar climate run just an external cooler and if so, what size?

Everybody I talked to about trans coolers say never to bypass the radiator cooler. They say it doesn't cool as well if you take that out of the loop.

Just do what I did Dixie, look at a unit you know will work.
So far no complaints. Just think I'm investing in a six-speed.
It's a B&M Tekcool with 1/2 lines.
It piggy backs the rad one.

Thank you Crewcabber, but I have to disagree with those people. I ran a factory 03+ Cobra/Mach1 radiator in my Thunderbird street/strip car, so no radiator cooler there. Instead I bought the biggest plate-and-fin (or was it a stacked-plate?) cooler that NAPA had and installed it along with a transmission temperature gauge. With JUST that external cooler, the 4R70W usually ran ~150 degrees cruising and it would get up to 185 or so if I really beat on it during the summer.

Thanks Puddy, but I can't find anything called a B&M Tekcool. Did you mean this?
