Doesn't that shield go between the manifold and the fuel pump? Would that part of the shield not block heat from the manifold? Perhaps I am not seeing the whole shield, perhaps I am seeing an illusion.
You're right Ray. The parts book pics show that "flap" pretty well. I think it would direct any air from the fan toward the fuel pump and maybe keep the fuel line cooler to help prevent vapor lock? I really don't know, but that's a theory.

I've never had a vapor lock problem on this truck, but my 2/35 air conditioning prevents me from driving it when it's really hot.

I guess with the cowl vent, it's 3/35 A/C.

The complete shield wraps around the front of the manifolds and continues down over the fuel pump. There is a lower attachment that uses one of the fuel pump bolts (per memory, it has been a decade since I installed one of these). Usually the lower bolt hole is broken off. Installing one did get rid of vapor lock on the 50 sedan I had (I sold it in 2006).

edit: looking at Marauder2004's picture further down this thread it looks like the lower attachment uses the top motor mount bolt.

I looked at my truck and only now noticed the tapped hole in the head for that top bolt. I had never seen that hole before.

I also see that my fuel line from the carb to fuel pump wouldn't be in the way of the baffle. However, my vacuum line might have to be reformed a bit...

I'll take a closer look at mine, I must be missing something. Or suffering from Sometimers.

Wow! I could have sworn there was a different comment in this post when I read it earlier...

Looking in my book....*9437
"Explanation of symbol *
* Symbol indicates part is not supplied for service due to the following:
A. Part is superseded and replaced as indicated in the description column of the text. (have not found that yet)
B. Part can be improvised as indicated in the description column of the text. (It's not in the text that I could find).
C. Due to its function there would be little or no demand.
Always refer to the description column of the text for possible substitution, or for material specifications and dimensions which may be helpful in obtaining the non-serviced part locally."

You just need to get a real catalog, not those new fangled plastic discs.

Part # 8HA 9437 226/254 all (exc. parcel delivery and COE which used 7HW 9437), Manifold air baffle assy.

You win. That number is not in my CD Parts Catalog.

That's what mine does too. It skips from 9435 to 9438. It was printed in 64, so I just have the scanned version of your book.

That's correct. As parts became obsolete they were deleted from the catalog. The discs are the final 1964 catalog. My catalog was printed in 1954. It makes a big difference having period correct research material.

Here's another shot of the subject "baffle" that also shows the lower shield. I can also get a picture of the unmounted baffle if anyone needs one since that's the current state of my truck from the cab forward!
