Dipped for Red Fuel

Red Dye
Just a heads up, I worked on Oil Tankers for almost 30 years and whenever we had a tank full of Red Diesel we would worry if that tank had to be loaded with Jet Full next. There was several times that we ended up with a tank of "Pink" Jet Fuel.
That Dye will tint clear fuel even after having a couple of run through it.
I remember one time I took on around 50,000 gallons of Diesel Fuel that had not been dyed yet. They gave me a 1 quart bottle of the dye, I asked how much to use and was told about 'CAP" Full for every 10,000 gallons.
So a little bit of Red will go a long way. To me it is just not worth it.
Back to the OP's question, I got stopped one time coming back into FL and had my tank dipped. This was back when fuel prices were going through the roof a couple of years ago.

dipped
I got it in Il. but it was because I had a fuel tank in the bed and I was told that I could not carry a fuel tank in the bed. I explained that I was from New Mexico and it was legal here. He ask why I had the tank I told him that I got 9 mile to the gallon towing and it was somtimes in New mexico there are places that it is a 1oo miles to the next fuel stop. He ask to sample the fuel in the truck and tank I had no problem. He had a suprised look on his face ask what I had in my tank because it was not deisel. My reply was you are right it is chicken oil and deisel. Because in New Mexico we run what we can find. He made a few call about it and then he let me go.
I will not run dyed fuel because here they fine by the mile and my 86 f250 has over a million miles on it and the 96 f250 has 750,000 and the 08 f350 has 148000 on it. I could not pay that kind of fine so they would have to pump sun light to me as far in the cell that they would put me in it.
