Manual transmission question

I have a 69 f-250 cd with a manual transmission. Reverse is to the right and up.
Anyone know the type, or part name ?

Is it a 4 speed floor shift with a granny low first gear? If so then it is possibly a Warner T18.

It's likely an early T-18... there is a late version (78/79?) that is right and down like the NP-435.

Borg Warner T-18 4 M/T = Reverse is up, towards the dash.

TRANS code stamped on the 2nd line of the Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch.

F = Borg Warner T-18 4 M/T

ND, thanks, I am out of town from the truck. I just bought this truck in Idaho, and trailered it home 1k miles. It a real barn find, and I will be posting pictures when I get home.

Possibly a T98? See what casting numbers you can find on it look anything like this?

No Borg Warner T-98 4 M/T's were installed in any trucks after 1964.

Borg Warner T-18 & New Process 435 4 M/T's introduced in 1965 F100/350's.

T-98 trans case will not bolt to a 240/300 or 352/360/390 bell housing.

You never know what a previous owner has done to the truck. Most likely a T18 if I had to bet on it. But just throwing out another possibility.

The only way the OP's '69 F250 could have a T-98 is .. if a 223/262 I-6 or 292 was swapped in. The last year for these 3 engines and the T-98 was 1964.

Why not a 352-360 or 390? I had the T98 behind a 390 when I first got my 64. and later behind a 360 that I pulled from my 71 when the 390 gave out. Obviously the 390 was swapped in my 64 since they weren't a factory engine option in 64.

T-98 uses a different trans case than a T-18.

T-98 uses a specific bell housing, will not bolt to either of the two FE bell housings.

Dave (garbz2) has said the same thing, as have others.

Very interesting Bill. The pic above is the trans I pulled from my 64 when I got it. I put the 360 that was in my 71 in the 64. I reused the clutch assembly that was mated to the t98 since the np435 that was in the 71 clutch had a different spline disc. Not sure how it worked if you and Garbz both say it won't work. The bellhousing had the 2 ears on the side to bolt to the crossmember.

2 ears:

C5TZ-7505-C .. 352 Bell Housing / Marked: C5TA-7505-C

1965 F100/250 4WD - 1965/66 F350 - 1966 F250 4WD

These trucks use the same engine/trans mounting system as 1961/64 292's.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No ears:

D0TZ-7505-A (replaced C5TZ-7505-B) .. FE Bell Housing / Marked: C5TA-7505-B

1965/66 F100/250 2WD - 1966 F100 4WD - 1967/76 F100/250 2WD/4WD & F350.
