TTB axle broken. Fix it or swap it?
My 1982 Bronco (300-6) has a uniquely broken passenger's side axle. The axle stub that comes out of the diff has female "splines" like a PTO shaft would. The axle itself has male splines. This, of course, is to allow it to flex. Well, on mine both sets of splines are messed up or ruined so that that connection doesn't hold, the female end just spins and the male end doesn't have to spin with it because the splines aren't making it do so. (confusing enough?)
I'm told that it's easier to just put in a junkyard TTB than to take the diff apart and fix it.
Question#1.
Is that true?
Question#2
If that is true, should I put a Junkyard TTB back in it or a solid front axle?
TIA,
Joe

You don't need to replace the whole suspension just the drive axles, and you can have it all apart in an hour if you know what you're doing so it's not a big job. I'd suggest installing all new U-joints on everything while you have it apart.
P.S. I had the same thing happen on an old Ranger(stripped axle splines due to rust) and I have had the axles out of my F150's for new U-joints too.

If it's that simple than i'd be a lot better off to just fix it. I'll check into it and take a stab at it. Thanks!
