Ignition Control Module

There has GOT to be a kit out there I can buy to convert my distributor mounted ICM into a remote mounted ICM (Firewall or somewhere else) with a heatsink.
I just bought an ICM and installed one last month, it went up again. This was a BWD brand replacement. I heard I can add washers between the distributor and ICM but I'm skeptical.

Did you use thermal compound on the new ICM? I would not use washers as a spacer. The mounting area on the distributor acts as a heat sink.

Aftermarket ICMs are known to be short lifers...highly recommend a Ford/Motorcraft.

Did you use the heat sink grease when you installed the BWD ignition control module?

Yes, I did use the dielectric grease that came in the box. I even cleaned both surfaces with alcohol before adding the grease. I know its the same principle as thermal paste on a computer. Unfortunately it still died on me.

Personally I would take the module back to where you bought it, it should have a warranty. You may have just got a bad one.

Years ago I installed a G P Sorenson ignition module on my "88 f-150 and it is still going. I went to Advance Auto Parts to buy a spare module for my "90 Taurus and requested a G P Sorenson, The Parts guy told me they changed the name to BWD, I assume it's true because on the both boxes there is a sticker that says "assembled in Hong Kong."

Also there was a post a short time ago(maybe on another site) asking about the quality of BWD products, I think everybody thought they were decent quality. Well, good luck whatever you decide to do.

Dielectric grease will not work, it has to be white thermal compound for the heat transfer.
The Dielectric grease was for the pins.

interesting, this is what was included though. (it looked like semi transparent goop)
I was thinking of putting Arctic Silver 5 but I'm not sure what conditions the AS5 would endure under the hood.

I was thinking the same thing. I have asked around about BWD and the general consensus is that they are a good replacement brand.

Normally I would agree BWD is a decent brand but when it comes to ICMs I highly suggest OEM.

I suppose you are right. It was hard to turn down a BWD brand ICM when it only coated me 25 bucks. When compared to a Motorcraft brand ICM at around 120 bones. I suppose its one of those times where I should have just gone with the real deal once .
