70's crew cab on 99+ chassis
Looking for some info/advice on a project i'm considering. I know this has been done at least once(Wayne Yates 72 6.0), but right now we're working 60-70 hours a week so it doesn't leave much time for cruising the interwebz. If somebody knows of some good posts on this please point me towards em. I had originally started building an extended cab shortbed 97, but i've since decided i need a crew cab and wanting to do something different.
What i'm looking to do is take a late 70's crew cab shortbed body, and put it on my 99 crew cab shortbed chassis. Its a complete 4wd rolling chassis. I also have a 7.3, ZF-6, transfer case, driveshafts, radiator, intercooler, and the full hydroboost system for it. Along with those parts i have an entire chassis wiring harness for a 97 OBS ECSB, from the taillights down to the injector plugs. I also have the pedals, tilt steering column and shaft, and some other random parts from the OBS. I basically have 2 parts trucks.
The reason i'm wanting to do it this way instead of swapping an engine into a 70's truck is for the frame. I have the parts to put me somewhere in the 6-700hp range. Not to mention the fact that the truck will do some sled pulling, drag racing, heavy towing, and general running around so i need a solid frame. Plus i plan on doing a full 05+ suspension swap with a 3/4 link front-end so it'd be nice to have everything bolt right up. The goal of the project is to build a really nice truck i can do whatever i want with. That means it'd ultimately have to get A/C, power windows, cruise control, and some other creature comforts.
So my biggest question right now, anybody know how closely the cab and bed mounts will line up on the newer chassis? Thanks
