Yea the bronco & some vans share the same latch. I did have one with the key pull lock type cable.
Since, I have my hood with a alarm & cable padlock down. I had just put it up on ebay and got $50 bucks for it a few yrs ago.

I came across one last week at the junk yard and do see them ever so often but with out the key for them.

baja, As for me, I'd keep the original latch, mod a cable in and when you were satisfied it was working I'd cut the hand pull. You also have some good alternative suggestions.

Cable release latches were 1st introduced in the Dents in 1978. 1975 for Econolines which had the same latch. Ford came out with a kit to add this feature to 73/79 Dents. It was part number D8TZ16700A. Discontinued 7/84. There are two places that show as having it. I can't afford to be the Guinea Pig. Any takers?

John has sound advice here... and some further contemplation is in order.. I do like the idea of the locking cable latch system... seems pretty fool proof to me... but so is my pad lock idea, and it is way simple.. drill 1 hole, put in the lock, done deal.. mmmmm..... simple vs upgrade.. ??

AFAIK, this D8TZ-16700-A .. Locking Hood Latch Kit will not fit 1967/72 F100/350's.

El Jeffe: Does the hood latch on your 1968 have a safety catch? 1967/68 factory installed hood latch (C7TZ-16700-A) is different than 1969/72.

Parts catalog shows C9TZ-16700-A for 1967/72, but C9TZ was the service part replacement for the C7TZ-16700-A latch.

In 1982, I bought a bicycle locking cable and padlock for my '65 F100, passed it thru an existing hole in the hood. Had just installed an R-27-FA 80 amp battery, didn't want to lose it.

The cable was long enough that the hood could be raised 8" so the padlock could be accessed.

 

ND, good of you to weigh in on this.. and one question.. will the B, instead of the A model work as well??

The complete dealer installed kit was D8TZ-16700-A

The latch ONLY was D8TZ-16700-B .. Ford replaced it in 1987 with E7UZ-16700-A

AFAIK, this kit will not work on 1967/72's. In the late 1970's, sold one to a friend w/a 1971, he returned it, said it wouldn't work.

Read the last 2 lines in post 21 which I edited in after the fact.

 

Thanks again ND.. you come through again, and as usual, with good, and accurate advice... I am now thinking that it would be a fairly major project to change the '67 hood latch, over to the cable pull, locking hood latch. As you suggest, it will not fit. At least, not a direct fit, and probably way more trouble than its worth.. I will go back to the drawing board, and use my wide (2.25") Master #101 pad lock, and call it good for now.

Would have been nice though, and way trick..

The 73& up latch mounts just about the grille where as 67-72 mount in the hood as you know. I've looked at doing this 75 pull cable latch before. And maybe with the engine out so, I had working room for that area to make a bracket for the latch bar and do the adjustments. Or with upper grille top sheet metal plate that bolts across the for better access for adjustment. Well my simple cable & padlock won out.

Like I'd said before my hood latch is rigged with trick switch to my alarm system.
So Just a I/2" of the lever movement sets it off with out releasing the hood latch itself.
So, I feel it's fairly save parking on the public street in my neighborhood.

Here in San Jose ca. some guys cut a hole in the hood above the battery and cut the
power cable to the alarm right in the home owner drive way that had a moving sensor light setup. They stole the complete dvd video system from the big caddy a few yrs ago..

If the Thief's want some thing back enough they will get it one way or another.

Last night I finally remembered to look. Couple years ago when I bought my 68 it had the Redneck chain holding the hood down. The hood had flown open on the PO obiously. I took all the 16700 stuff off my 1971 parts truck and installed it on the 68. So yes, I do have the safety catch. Thanks for bringing it up Bill.
On the cable latch gig we got goin' on here, The latch is on the hood of a Bump but on the core support of a Dent. So I wonder if the Dent hood latch catch (16900 in Bill's pic) would bolt to a Bump hood?

 

Jeff, I've thought of trying to swap the two out the next time, I'm at Pnp if both trucks are there with hoods on them.

But it would flip the cable over to the passengers side and may need a longer cable Right!
