Question ZF 5-speed parking brake assembly

I have a question regarding the removal of the brake drum from the transmission mounted brake assembly. It looks to me that it should slide off the the rear flange just like a typical brake drum. Is this correct? I tried to pry with 2 long pry bars and tapping around flange with a hammer and it did not slide off the flange. Is there a special drum puller? There are no slots on dust shield from the factory. Should I cut 2 slots at outer dust shield and try a drum puller? My other idea is to tack weld 2 nuts to steel brake drum and use a 2 bolt setup with my slide hammer. I'll take any suggestions as I want to check condition of this unit I just purchased that fits my transmission fine. I also need a source for brake shoes for this as most parts suppliers only list brake spring kits when I do a search. Thanks for any information on this problem.
