I didn't have any trouble with mine.Did you use the large flat,square cut, o-ring? Maybe you didn't draw down the screws evenly and or over tighten?

I hope I have better luck. It makes me want to drive it to the fuel station and fill it before I put the bed on
Not close at all. There is NO way it would fit in a short bed though
