Switching out a 300/6 for a 360

You will need a 360-390 bell housing and engine perches for a 360-390 .. The 360-390 was not offered in 78-79 so whether the perches from a highboy chassis will work for you is the big question .. I know there are others who have done this swap so take a look for other threads in this forum ..

Sometimes what appears to be a 'good deal' is not...
Gotta get an FE manual bellhousing, engine mounts, radiator size, trim the radiator opening of the core support, gas pedal arm & linkage, clutch linkages, exhaust (front half at least), get a clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, and all the little incidentals.
2x on rebuilding the 300.... Heck, get a long block from O'Reillys and you'll be miles and dollars ahead.

I have been around a few 351m's and now own one, ill say they are monsters despite the bad rep.. I have to admit, even though I swapped a 300/6 for a 302 the 300 is by far my favorite motor and there are PLENTY of performance upgrades available.. the 360 is not an absolute dog by ANY means.. I know a man who has had one in his yard wrecker for the last 20 years and it has plenty of power in front of its 4 speed..

Sorry but I'll bet a 300 six will out tow a 360 FE any day of the week. They might not be fast but they will tow damn near anything and still get good mileage. Torque is the name of the game here.
P.S. Not all sixes are dogs either. There is a member on here with a 300 6 that would blow most V8's doors off. Also there's my cummins 6 banger but that's a whole nother animal.

I 100% disagree.. besides my 300 does have pedals. I have watched a 300-6 (stock) boil 38's on dry pavement vs a Chevy 350 bog in second in a mud hole.. the 302 is the next weakest runner up IMO.. but back on topic zgraham, that sounds a little high.. is the motor running?
