2012 5.0 or ecoboost?

The turbos are oil cooled and water cooled. After shutdown the antifreeze/water continues to flow to cool the oil to the turbos to prevent the oil from coking.

All towing aside...(unless you think you will bestowing in the future which OULD change what you would want) You cannot go wrong with either the 5.0 or the EGOboost. Do you like the V8 rumble? If so the 5.0 has a pretty mean growl and is a great running motor. The EGOboost is much quieter and has some real deceptive grunt.
Frankly reliability is a toss up for either motor...it all comes down to regularly scheduled maintenance, how hard you beat on your motor, and a little luck (luck because let's face it sh#t breaks on any motor sometimes). The 5.0 has had issues with oil consumption on some motors and the EGOboost has had CAC issues (intercooler moisture buildup on models 2011-2012 mostly). I have had NO motor related issues as of yet with my EGOboost.
You just have to go to the dealer and drive these trucks back to back. When I say drive them I don't mean go for the 5 minute test drive...take at least 10-15 minute for each. Freeway, backroad, starts and stops. Your sales person won't mind. I would drive the 5.0L first get a good feel on it's acceleration, sound, and responsiveness. Then I would drive the EGOboost right after. Make sure you are test driving the same configuration like two SCREWS.
Why did I choose the EGOboost you might be asking? I was planing and still plan to tow at the upper end of the trucks range with a half ton towable 5th wheel. The 5.0L was not rated to tow as much as the EGOboost. I also know that the EGOboost will have a distinct advantage in altitude when the 5.0L will be losing power due to the thinner air...my turbos will be humming along and I will be passing people without issue going up those steep grades.
OTHERWISE...the 5.0L would have fit the bill for me and it would have been about $1200 cheaper.
Hope this helps.

You can usually get a better deal at the end of the month. If you are a Costco member...they have a buying program that will help get some money off the truck. USAA also gives a great amount off the price. I used the Costco buying program (sort of) it started at 600 below invoice then subtractedd incentives.

Towing with the two is a numbers game when looking at rated limits. A 5.0 with 3.73 is within a few hundred pounds rated towing of the eco with 3.55. I suspect its more to do with selling more eco than the actual limit of the trucks.
The deal you should look for is 250 off invoice and all incentives on top. Very easy to find. Call or ask salesman and make this offer within minutes of meeting. Before you even open the door of a truck, while walking around the outside. "Look, I am only willing to pay $250 under invoice and I get all incentives. YOu get the rest of the hold back money." And remain silent. 2 out of three will take deal. Tell them you only came to their lot because ...it close, its where you were before and you like it, it got the color you want with some of options you want....but let them know you are looking elsewhere and they already said ok to deal....then say something like you wanted to give them a shot to match it. Invoice is easy, $250 under takes a minute for them to swallow. Have invoice prive from tru car, kbb, or Edmunds. Then keep trade separate. you will know how much your trade is worth before arriving, then you know the real money they are offering if the field is even on purchase price. Incentives are yours and don't cost them anything, don't let them say "It invoice with all incentives" If you do you gave them the 2k incentive. Invoice is around 10 percent off sticker. Yes that 52000 sticker is really only 46-47 invoice. Add 2k incentives to your side, not theirs. SO 52k sticker should come down 10 percent plus incentives.. 52 to 47-46 to 45-43 depending on what you qualify for. Then trade off that....
Don't get lost in numbers, that is their only trick. Will try to combine and say $35 plus your truck. What did you pay? What was trade truck worth? What was incentives? Just lost you, and you lost money. Know each item.
