Electrical dummy question

First off, I admit to being an electrical dummy. That said, I am about to wire in a Dura-Spark ignition into my '89 F-250 using instructions that Franklin2 posted in an earlier thread.

Most of the wires involved (module etc.) look like 16 gauge wires. My supply of 16 gauge wire is limited but I have a very good supply of 12 gauge gas and oil resistant wire. I know its dangerous to use smaller than necessary wires but is there a down side to going to somewhat larger wire? Would I be OK using the 12 gauge wire for this?

Any advice greatly appreciated.
