53-56 frame differences?

I have never had two frames side by side to compare but I found a 54 (canadian, had a flathead) 3/4 ton frame and would like to know what is different as far as cross members etc. What is involved in putting a yblock in the frame.Just the front cross member?
Thanks Dave

Are you looking for a long bed frame? Most of the F250 3/4 ton trucks I have seen have an 8 ft bed. In the F100 line the biggest differences between the slant cab and the 56 is the length of the rear springs, the battery tray, and the running board brackets. The I6 had a different front engine mount crossmember than the V8 but I am not sure how that may have changed between the years.

I can purchase a 54 mercury 3/4 ton frame that had a flathead. The frame for dad's 56 m 100 was a factory long box with a y block. It has front end damage and an this would be an easier route to go.

Just don't forget if you change frames you'll loose the trucks original Vin# on the frame.

As far as I know the Western Provinces of Canada only use the body VIN. At least in Manitoba that is all we need to register.

I think we are safe here to Grant but plan on welding the Vin into frame any way.Although it is the pass side that I need so it might be left as is.
