I don't like painting over my head with chassis saver.

Looking nice. Are you going to weld or just use bolts. Just curious.

Thanks! I will be using both mainly because the holes are already there for bolts and they help with alignment.

Nice welds! My welds look like the shoreline below Mt Mauna Loa.

Thanks for the complements! It is slow going but it will get done eventually. I am pretty much done with the rear extension now. Just have a side saddle to build to hold the oxygen tank and then I can move onto the truck stuff like in tank mods, chassis saver, and whatnots.

Is it worth it (mileage wise) to dump the stock exhaust for 4"?

As for economy, nothing really beats just having the truck running 100%. I never saw any improvement in MPG with the large exhaust, but it breathes better when it goes beyond stock performance.

Still going with the vinegar treatments and lots of water and salt. Never realized how hard it was to get something TO rust. Almost as hard as keeping things from rusting... I would have thought this would have been easy.

I want a surface rust to build up so it etches the metal for the chassis saver to soak into/adhere to.

Out of all the different preps and tricks I have tried over the years, I found that a simple surface rust (slight pitting) is the absolute best base for chassis saver/por-15 to stick to.

Even with their metal prep stuff and following every letter of the directions to a T nothing works better than some rust itself.

Yesterday I finally got the last of the mill scale off the new frame sections (vinegar isn't as fast as I thought it would be). So now I can finally let it sit and rust/etch.

I think next time I will just pick up some muriatic acid or something and try that. I did have some hydrochloric acid but apparently that stuff weakens over time to the point that it won't even dissolve a french fry.

Brake cleaner works GREAT for making bare metal rust. As in flash rust, in minutes. However I don't know if that'll give the desired porosity you're looking for for proper adhesion.
