cruise control not activating

Ours quit also. I found some old threads. If the horn doesn't work either, it's probably the clock spring in the steering column. It could also be the switches in the steering wheel, a pressure switch on the inside front of the master cylinder, or the brake switch on the brake pedal.

It would narrow it down if I had any idea where to start looking. I've seen almost no info on my issue. There is plenty of info out there like mentioned above, about if nothing works but wothy light coming on I can't get any straight answers

Plug "speed control diagnostics" (include the quotation marks!) in the SEARCH box above. Plenty of previous threads about this issue if you know how to find them. Substitute the word "cruise" for "speed" for more results.
The speed control system is the same between the Super Duty and the regular F150 series of this era, so do not restrict your research to only the Excursion forum.

Excursion Cruise "out of Control"
Hi Guys,
Just got here due to my new to me 2002 X having the obvious problems.....
Let me say that there are way too many threads separately posted about the cruise.......Can the Moderators possibly put them in a grouping???
What I have found in the first 2 days of chasing this gremlin.
The recall is a very poor "fix" by Ford to stop fires/meltdowns caused by a poorly designed pressure switch located on the Master Brake Cylinder.
When the switch fails fluid leaks out into a hot 12V circuit.......the "fix" was to fuse the circuit..........(they SHOULD have improved the switch itself!)
Anyway, temporary jumper in the harness bypasses the pressure switch and will give you the answer to the question of bad switch? Bad recall harness? And bad fuse?.......Question here is WHY!!!?? did they put a fuse in line and then say on the tag,....not serviceable?? Are fuses not meant to be replaced?
Also found after looking at a wiring diagram that pressing the "on" and "coast" at the same time is "supposed" to blow the horn by design.
OK, but ...well whatever.
In order to keep looking at more threads, just scroll to the bottom and open the listed threads in a new window(right click) keep opening and reading the threads you WILL find what you need to know.
I like this one:

So far I haven't solved my dead cruise, I have jumpered out the recall harness /pressure switch and now I can engage the system, it just wont react at all......next step.........Amazon
for a new servo
