Slow filling fuel tank - no more

Since replacing the fuel filter on my '93 F250, the rear tank now fills just as quickly as the front tank. Before the filter change it was a 15 minute ordeal to fill the rear.

Hope this helps somebody else.

How does changing the filer affect the fill rate?

Where is the fuel filter located? I'm sure I could look it up on YouTube but since I'm here now thought I'd ask. I have one, just haven't installed yet. 351w

I'm thinking when you changed the filter, messing around under the truck may have cleared a blockage in the tank vent line. The vent line is the only thing that will affect fill speed.

Yep...it was pretty strange. I watched the mechanic change out the filter. He put the truck on his lift, took off the old filter and put on the new one. He did not touch anything else. Some fuel came out of the fuel lines...maybe that cleared something out. Whatever...my rear tank now fills just fine.

It cant be related. It depends a lot what angle the truck is sitting. Point it uphill a little and it wont take fuel as well. I think nose downhill and pass side lower than drivers is best on mine.

I'm just chalking it up to the truck saying "thanks for taking good care of me". And I do hope that it lasts...two fills so so far.

What does "Full" mean?

The quicker fills didn't last. Via experimentation, I've found the the tanks only fill "fast" when I can park the truck on a side slope to the passenger side. Parking level is slow fill and parking with a slope to the driver's side is dismally slow.

Also "Full", meaning factory spec fuel capacity, happens when the fuel needle just barely goes beyond the "Full" icon. You can continue to overfill by approximately 2 gallons per tank.

Mileage remains a steady 10-11 at freeway speeds of 65-80 mph. Had a big tailwind on a tank last week where I got 12. That 460 loves it's fuel.
