1979 ford f250 no spark when cranking

it may be brown on the I terminal....whatever color it is, do you have 12 volts there while cranking?

Yes i belive so i can double check tommorow but im positive that tgeres 12 volts there

Yes . You should have battery voltage to coil while cranking .

Slow cranking can be caused by a badly corroded starter power cable.

FoMoCo never referred to the 400 as an M.

Then just out of curiousity, module is on the drivers side correct its a square lookin thing.
Scroll down to bottom of page in right pic: 400 VIN engine code is S .. Where in both pics is 400M? No see um.

Hey do you guys have any more ideas ive gone thru everything on that found a melted plastic plug replaced it made a jumper wire straight from battery to tge coil and still only spark when it stops cranking over is it possible for the pick up assembly to be bad and have it spark when the key goes off

I believe it is. When mine was acting this way I tried all of the easy stuff I had on hand and no help. As a last resort I finally went to Napa and got a pick-up coil and it solved the problem.....It may or may not solve yours. Good luck with it, I know what you're going though.

so i pulled the dist apart and the pick assembly is broken into pieces how in the hell does it come off of the shaft tho im gettin a whole new distributer but i want to know for future refference

Has a small wire snap ring... you can see it in the pic beside the vac. can.

Alright guys so after a whole lot of playing with things i got sick of it and bot a whole new distributor and it runs fine the carb needs some tuning and theres some fine timing i need to do but after that she will be runnin like a champion
